Jakarta, 7 February 2018 – PT Eastspring Investments Indonesia (“Eastspring Indonesia”), one of the largest asset managers in Indonesia, today held its 2018  Global and Local Market Outlook event for clients, business partners and media.

“Eastspring Investments is the Asian asset management business of Prudential plc, as  part of a global financial services group, we are committed to sharing our views on the market outlook and economic conditions for both the local and international markets,” said Alan T. Darmawan, President Director, Eastspring Investments Indonesia.

The half day event was hosted by Virginie Maisonneuve, Chief Investment Officer, Eastspring Investments and Ari Pitojo, Chief Investment Officer, Eastspring Investments Indonesia.

“Last year the world economy improved, as did the Indonesian economy. In 2017, investor confidence was further boosted domestically when Standard and Poor’s raised Indonesia’s sovereign rating to investment grade (BBB-) which all contributed to a record performance in both the equity and fixed income markets,” said Mr Pitojo said at the event.

“Indonesia’s strong performance last year can also be attributed to a range of economic policy packages introduced by the government in 2015,” Mr Pitojo added.

The government’s measures introduced in 2015 were designed to improve both trade and investment, and included an accommodative monetary policy, higher public infrastructure spending, and a series of industry deregulatory measures.

“Looking ahead to the coming 12 months we expect the Indonesian economy to continue to grow with consumer and government spending the biggest contributors to the economy,” commented Ms Maisonneuve.

The continued economic recovery together with a boost in global commodity prices will also have a positive impact. Overall, Indonesia’s solid economic fundamentals should continue to support the capital markets and attract investors to enter this market.

“As we look ahead to the next 12 months, many areas of the investment landscape show promise. As disciplined long-term investors, Eastspring offers a range of equity, fixed income and shariah funds for Indonesian investors that are designed to meet the needs of investors,” said Ms Maisonneuve.

At the event, Eastspring officially launched the '2018 Market Outlook - And The Race is On’ booklet, which was received well by clients and business partners. The booklet is available to download for free at eastspring.co.id

“We believe this event and the Outlook booklet will significantly benefit all of our stakeholders. These activities are part of our ongoing investment literacy program, designed to further develop Indonesia’s capital markets,” added Alan.

PT Eastspring Investments Indonesia is one of the largest asset management companies in the country with AuM of more than IDR 73.3 trillion (as at 29 Dec 2017).
