TOKYO (2 July 2020) - Eastspring Investments (“Eastspring”), the USD 241 billion Asian investment management arm of Prudential plc, announced today the appointment of Yasuhisa Nitta as Representative Director and Chief Executive Officer of Eastspring Investments Japan. An industry veteran, Mr Nitta has had a highly successful investment career and worked for a number of Japan’s leading financial services companies.

Reporting to Wai-Kwong Seck, Chief Executive, Eastspring Investments, Mr Nitta commences his new role on 15 July and will be responsible for driving and developing Eastspring’s retail and institutional business in Japan.

In addition, Xavier Meyer, Head of Distribution at Eastspring and a member of the firm’s Executive Management Committee, has been appointed as a representative director on the board of Eastspring’s Japan business. Mr Meyer will provide the board with senior level support and oversight.

Mr Nitta brings more than 30 years of investment management experience to this role. He joins Eastspring from PGIM Japan (previously Prudential Investment Management Japan) where he served as President and Chief Executive Officer since 2007 and was appointed Chairman of the Board in 2020. In this role, he made a significant contribution to business growth and established a strong reputation in the institutional market for PGIM.

Previously, Mr Nitta worked for 22 years with the Mizuho Financial Group. He held senior roles with Mizuho Bank, Dai-Ichi Kangyo Asset Management (now known as Asset Management One) and DKB Investment Management International in Japan, Zurich and London.

In making this announcement, Mr. Seck said he was delighted to welcome an executive of Mr Nitta’s experience to the team.

“Japan is an important growth market for Eastspring, and Yasuhisa brings extensive experience and leadership in management, investment, strategy and marketing to this role. Not only is he a strong leader, he is also widely respected in the industry,” Mr. Seck said.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr. Nitta said, “I am looking forward to being part of the Eastspring team. I have been impressed by the strength of the business as well as the firm’s long-term strategy. My focus will be to continue building on Eastspring’s strong growth momentum in Japan.”

Mr Nitta assumes this role from Tsukasa Sekizaki, who will transition to a senior advisor role on 15 July and will leave Eastspring at the end of October.
