Building and Bonding in Vietnam

From 3-10 September, two Eastspring Singapore volunteers joined the Regional PRUvolunteers programme to help build a school-cum-evacuation centre in a village in Vietnam.

Along with other volunteers from various local business units, they braved the sun and occasional rain to build the school fence, toilet and garden. They also had the opportunity to meet the children who will study at the school and their families.

On 6 & 7 September, three Eastspring Singapore volunteers traded their day jobs (for a few hours) to teach ChaChing, a financial literacy programme to children at Mighty Kids and Family Centre (MKFC), run by our CSR partner.

Befriending Children & Elderly

Befriending Children & Elderly

A group of 15 Eastspring Singapore volunteers brought 10 underprivileged children from the MightyKids, Families & Community (MKFC) and 18 elderly from SASCO to HortPark on 24 June 2016.

This is the first time we paired children with the elderly. Together they visited the newly-opened Edible Garden where they learned about organic growing, micro greens, and did terrariums. Through pairing, children learn how to care for the elderly, and elderly thrive on the interaction with children, from the joy and warmth they bring.

Building Homes in Bantayan

Volunteers from Eastspring Singapore helped to rebuild houses in the Philippines’ Bantayan Island from 18-24 June 2016, which was ravaged by Typhoon Haiyan in late 2013. Along with 80 other volunteers from different Asian business units, they worked together to lay bricks and set the foundation for Bantayan families who lost their homes during the typhoon.

Organised by Prudence Foundation in partnership with Habitat for Humanity, this is the fourth relief effort to Bantayan. This program falls under Prudence Foundation’s Disaster Preparedness and Recovery pillar.

"Save or Spend" at MKFC Carnival

"Save or Spend" at MKFC Carnival

On 12 March 2016, a group of 14 Eastspring volunteers participated in a carnival organised by the Life Community Services Society (LCSS), one of our CSR partners. The carnival aimed to raise awareness of LCSS’ Mighty Kids and Family Centre (MKFC), as well as get families together in a fun setting. Newly renovated, the centre provides activities and programs for underprivileged children and families in the Telok Blangah area.

Eastspring ran a game-cum-food stall, where kids answered a “Save” or “Spend” question before collecting popcorn or cotton candy. The game was to encourage kids to learn to save and spend money wisely. The cotton candy—hand-made by Eastspring volunteers!—proved a hit among the kids, many of whom played the game several times to win more candy. The volunteers also had fun interacting with the children and their families.

Investors Surf the Value Wave with Eastspring

On 22 February 2016, Eastspring’s Global Strategist, Robert Rountree delivered an animated and highly energetic presentation to Securities Investors Association (Singapore) (SIAS) retail investors on how best to ride the current turbulent markets. The talk-cum-panel discussion with an SIAS moderator was a joint event between Eastspring and SIAS, a registered charity and our CSR partner under the financial education thrust.

Held at the SGX Auditorium, the event attracted nearly 200 attendees, ranging from 20-somethings to retirees. The audience filled the auditorium to capacity and extra chairs had to be brought in. Robert kept the audience engaged throughout the session with his liveliness and macro views on the region. From the feedback, the audience found the session insightful and informative, and would like to see more of such sharing sessions in the future.
